Just a few weeks after the thrill of seeing Wendy Whelan wearing my earrings, I got a call from a friend, "I'm watching a documentary about the Little Prince and one of the experts is wearing your necklace!"

The other night I was watching a movie on Netflix while making dinner, happily chopping an onion, when I looked up and there on screen were my earrings!

I ended up designing jewelry thanks to my aunt Jessica. In February 2000 I was planning a trip to New York City to see if I wanted to move there. I thought that if I liked the city I'd return to Michigan, where I'd been living, and save up for the move. 

A lifetime of making art adds up to a huge body of work. In the case of my grandfather, even just the published artwork is extensive.

I've written some more about my grandfather, Garth Williams. Did you know he was a sculptor before he started illustrating children's books? Or that he was a Red Cross volunteer in London during the war?
