Vintage spatula

Vintage spatula

It's becoming apparent how much affection I have for slightly gnarly old kitchen tools. This is my favorite spatula, used most days — in fact I had to wash it before taking this picture because it was involved in making my lunch.

It has no sentimental family source. I bought it for 75 cents at a stoop sale on my block when I lived in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Like my favorite spoon, it has a slightly angled edge and it feels great in the hand.

I have strong feelings about many of the tools I use. As a maker, these tools are almost as meaningful to me as the things I make. I created #toolsontuesday to keep up the practice of sharing stories about the tools we use and live with.

Every Tuesday, I share one of my favorite tools. I hope you'll share yours in the comments — it feels good to honor these everyday objects.

  • Hello, I have one if you’re interested… just pay for the shipping. We are in the process of downsizing and I would be happy to share.

  • I had that very same spatula. Used it every day. Then about a week ago it broke. It split right down the middle. I am so sad. Now I am searching Google to try and replace it. Lucky you. A good tool is a treasure.
